Settings to Change in Finder

I’m relatively new to Macs and still using a Windows computer so it took me some time to figure out I needed to change a couple of preferences in Finder to make my life a little easier.

The first is to have Finder open in the directory folder I want, and not settle for the default setting. Open Finder, then choose Finder > Preferences, select the General tab, and select the folder you want Finder to open in by clicking the drop-down box for New Finder window opens. I use my Dropbox folder, which is pictured below.

The second preference, When performing a search, is located on the Advanced tab, and defaults to Search this Mac. I changed this preference to Search the Current Folder, which eliminates a lot of confusion for me.

The Sidebar tab in Preferences was helpful too, but I’ll keep this post simple and stick to my top two Finder preferences.
